The generic CSV upload is the primary way to import your business outcome data (revenue, conversions, leads) and any other non-ad-platform data into MMM Pilot. This is typically the first data you add to a project—the Dependent Variable that the model will try to explain.
Prerequisites
- A CSV file with:
- One column containing dates in a recognizable format (e.g.,
YYYY-MM-DD,MM/DD/YYYY). - One or more numeric columns with business data.
- One column containing dates in a recognizable format (e.g.,
- An existing project to upload into.
Step-by-Step
1. Open the Upload Dialog
- Navigate to your project’s Data tab.
- Click the Add Data dropdown.
- Select CSV Upload.
2. Select Your File
- Click the file picker area or drag and drop your
.csvfile. - The platform begins processing your data immediately to identify the structure.
3. Review Automatic Detection
After upload, our AI-powered detection identifies the core components of your file:
| Detection | What Happens |
| Date Column | The platform scans all columns to identify the one containing date values. It is highlighted in the preview for your verification. |
| Date Granularity | The system determines if your data is daily or weekly based on the intervals between dates. |
| Column Data Types | Numeric vs. text columns are identified. Only numeric columns are used in the analysis. |
If the automatic detection needs adjustment, you can manually select a different date column or change the granularity setting.
4. Preview the Data
A table preview shows the first few rows of your file and the total row count. Verify that your raw numbers appear correctly and that the date column is properly mapped.
5. Confirm Upload
Once you confirm, the data source is added to the project and appears as a card on your Data tab.
After Upload: Configure Fields
Once uploaded, each column in the CSV becomes a field in the project.
- Open the data source card by clicking on it.
- For each field, set:
- Alias: A human-readable display name (e.g., rename
rev_dailyto “Daily Revenue”). - Type: Assign a role. For your primary business CSV, you will typically set one column as the Dependent Variable.

What Should You Upload as a Generic CSV?
This method is designed for signals that do not come from an ad platform.

CSV Formatting Tips
- Consistent dates: Use the same format throughout the file.
- No merged cells: The CSV should be a flat table with one header row.
- Clean numeric values: Avoid currency symbols ($), percentages (%), or thousand separators (,) inside numeric cells. Use raw numbers only.
- UTF-8 encoding: Save your file with UTF-8 encoding to avoid character issues.
Replacing or Removing a CSV
- To replace a CSV, delete the existing data source from the Data tab and re-upload the updated file.
- To remove a CSV, click the delete icon on the data source card.
- Note: Removing a data source does not affect completed runs—those results are preserved.
